Real Madrid midfielder Claudia Zornoza considers that this season they have made “a great leap on a physical level” and that they have adapted “very quickly to all the signings”, and she is clear that this year they are facing “a unique opportunity to move to the history of the club” if they win the Copa de la Reina.
“I think that the work that we are doing has a lot of merit, we have adapted very quickly to all the incorporations that we have had during these years and we have known how to face the demands of the team. If I compare it with the previous season, the truth is that we have given a great leap on a physical level, something that has been reflected in the fourteen consecutive games unbeaten in the league”, admits Zornoza in an interview after presenting the spring 2023 campaign of the ‘New Balance’ brand.
The international confesses that she feels “happy” at the moment and that “this is reflected on the pitch.” “Since I arrived at the club, there have been months of personal and professional growth that have helped me improve as a footballer. I think I’m in a good moment, I have exceeded my expectations and I hope I can continue enjoying this for a long time”, he wishes.
In this sense, he hopes that his future will continue to be linked to the Madrid team because he is “from Madrid” and feels his current club “like any fan who goes to Di Stéfano”. “I give my all in each game and I think that this has made my union with the madridistas so good. They want to continue encouraging me on the pitch and I want them to continue doing so for more seasons, so I can only say that I hope I can be like that,” says Zornoza.
The Real Madrid midfielder assures that her “short-term” goal and her “dream” is to be able to win the Copa de la Reina, for whose ‘Final a Cuatro’ they have qualified together with Atlético de Madrid, Athletic Club and Alhama and where they must be “aware that the matches are going to be very complicated” and must be “one hundred percent concentrated”.
“It’s a competition in which you risk everything in 90 minutes, so it’s always more complicated, but it’s a unique opportunity to win Real Madrid’s first title and go down in club history,” added the Real Madrid player, who knows that they play “a winning club”. “Whenever you have options to win a title, it’s something very exciting and we’re going to work hard to win,” she underlines.
In this cup tournament they can meet Atlético de Madrid, with whom they had a disputed goalless derby last week. “It was a very tactical match. I think the first part cost us a little more, also thanks to our rivals, but in the second we dominated more, although the plays were not materialized,” he details.
