MADRID, March 9 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Polish forward of FC Barcelona, Robert Lewandowski, knows that “the DNA” of his club ‘forces’ them to play in an attractive way, but he does not hide that they must also “understand that football is changing” and that what dominated before it may not be useful at present, while he celebrates the improvement of a team that “has taken a very big step forward” and in which he still sees many more years.
“I know, from Barça’s DNA, that we have to look for a good game, but we also have to understand that football is changing. For example, Barça’s game ten years ago, perhaps it wouldn’t work now. We have to adapt to football and teach what better than we have”, warns Lewandowski in an interview with the club’s magazine.
The attacker believes that “you have to find the perfect solution for the place where you are and for football at the moment”. “The ‘tiki taka’ might not work today. You have to find the balance and the perfect solution between the football of the moment and the players you have,” he insisted.
Besides, the international admits that they have “found” the way in this moment of the campaign. “The first month here I already saw that there was a lot of potential, but in football it’s not easy to change things in just a week or a month, you have to be patient. Now I see that everything is on the right track because we have a lot of young players and they they need more time to hear and understand things and change their mindset,” he says.
“It seems to me that in the first part of the season we were doing well in some things, but we made mistakes that could be avoided. In this second half I see everything much better. As a team, as a club, we have taken a very big step forward and I know we can still improve”, continues Lewandowski.
The Pole is clear that, in order to win LaLiga Santander, where they have a nine-point advantage over Real Madrid, and the Copa del Rey, where they have an advantage over the Madrid team in the semifinals and with the return at the Spotify Camp Nou, they must believe that everything is possible”, but he warns that “it is still too early to think” about a possible double to join the Spanish Super Cup.
In addition, regarding the elimination in the group stage of the Champions League, he stresses that to win this competition “you cannot make the mistakes” they had because “in the Champions League small mistakes have a high cost.”
Personally, the striker tries to “help” his teammates, “not only with goals” but also through his “mentality” and “behavior”, while he praises “very young” players like Pedri, Gavi, Alejandro Balde or Ronald Araujo, who “have enormous potential and experience because they have been playing for Barça for several years now”.
“I know that with these footballers the future of Barça is assured. It is also important not to set very high expectations for them because, in the long term, it could harm them”, underlines the striker, who points out that Xavi Hernández sees “many things” thanks to his career as a midfielder. “He always tells us that we should be able to change the dynamics of the game, that we don’t have to wait for the middle part to change some things,” he emphasizes.
Finally, Lewandowski admits that he “doesn’t” think about his Barça future. “I know that I can still play at a high level for a few more years. How many will it be? We’ll see, it won’t be one or two, it will be more. Now, here at FC Barcelona, I understand the meaning of ‘Month than a club’ (‘More than a club’) because when you’re inside and see how everything works, you understand it exactly”, says the ‘pichichi’ of LaLiga Santander.
