MADRID, March 12 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish coach Félix Sánchez Bas, Qatar’s coach during the last World Cup, will lead the Ecuadorian team until the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico, the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) has announced.
The 47-year-old from Barcelona, trained at La Masia, will replace Argentine Gustavo Alfaro at the helm of the ‘Tri’, with whom he will make his debut this month in the double friendly against Australia on March 24 and 28.
Sánchez ended his long stay as coach in Qatar this year, where he arrived in 2006. The Spanish coach led the host team during the 2022 World Cup, but it did not make it past the group stage; Ecuador, which was also in Group A, did not advance to the round of 16 either despite beating Qatar in the opening match (2-0).
