The departure of the until now sports director joins that of Mateu Alemany, football director
BARCELONA, May 16. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The still sports director of FC Barcelona, Jordi Cruyff, will leave the Blaugrana club at the end of the season after deciding not to renew his contract to undertake “new projects” away from the Spotify Camp Nou, following in the footsteps of the still director of football and his superior, Mateu Alemany, who will also leave from June 30.
“Jordi Cruyff will not renew his contract with the entity at the end of this season due to the desire to undertake new professional projects. This was communicated this morning to the president of the entity, Joan Laporta,” the club announced in a statement.
In the meeting, which was “emotional” according to the entity, Jordi Cruyff argued his next departure from the club in search of “new challenges” after two seasons at Barça.
“Jordi Cruyff has conveyed his commitment to help the club in the transition towards a new football executive structure, offering his maximum collaboration in closing pending operations in the summer market”, revealed the club, in a gesture similar to de Alemany, who will disassociate himself but will continue to help until the market closes in terms of registrations and cancellations.
In addition, Cruyff expressed his “most sincere thanks” to the president for his “trust” and for having offered him the opportunity to join FC Barcelona two seasons ago.
The son of the historic ex-player and ex-Blaugrana coach Johan Cruyff arrived at FC Barcelona from Shenzhen FC in the Chinese league, to join Laporta’s new project from September 1, 2021.
“In his two seasons at the Catalan club, Jordi Cruyff’s work has been very valuable in football decisions and in the reconstruction of the first team. In addition, he has been a person very close to the coaches and technical staff who have had the club”, valued the entity, which thanks Cruyff for his “important contribution” as a member of the Sports Commission.
