With Father’s Day just around the corner and some stragglers leaving gift shopping until the last day, a cologne is probably one of your options.

That being said, fragrance is undoubtedly one of the most personal care and beauty products you can buy and there is a lot to discover with each one: type, price, smell.., not to mention how it blends with your unique body chemistry.

But there is one element you can be sure of and that is understanding the differences between the two fundamental categories of the world of fragrances: Eau de Toilette and Eau de parfum. Surely you know that they are not the same, but do you know what or what the differences are?

If you want to crown yourself this Father’s day and hit the target, the truth is that it does not hurt to know what each fragrance contributes, as long as you do not want to spend too much money directly buying a perfume.

Eau de Parfum vs. Eau de Toilette: What are the differences?

As it turns out, the distinction between Eau de parfum formulas and their Eau de toilette rivals is clear and simple. It all comes down to a classification that the brand makes, based on how the smell feels in terms of concentration of the fragrance oils.

So that there is no doubt, explain that perfume is the fragrance with the highest concentration. After this, the next highest fragrance concentration would be that of the Eau de Parfum with between 15% and 20% of oils. On average, the scent can last on your skin for four to five hours.

The big plus is that this type of fragrance can be more reliable than others and is relatively less expensive than perfume.

Eau de toilette, on the other hand, has a fragrance concentration of between 5% to 15%. It is cheaper than the previous one and is one of the most popular types of fragrance available in the market. It normally lasts two to three hours and is considered by some to be day-to-day. The term Eau de Toilette comes from the French term “faire sa toilette” which means to prepare, so it makes sense.

The easiest way to choose one over the other is to ask yourself how strong you want your fragrance to be. The higher concentration of the Eau de Parfum makes the scent more lasting and aromatic, while an Eau de Toilette is more for mornings or even going to work every day.

Choose correctly, assess what the other person’s tastes are, take these differences into account and you will surely be right.
