MADRID, March 9 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Real Madrid’s French striker, Karim Benzema, is a doubtful for the team’s match this Saturday (2:00 p.m.) against RCD Espanyol at the Santiago Bernabéu, after he did not train on the pitch at the Ciudad Deportiva de Valdebebas for the last two days, as reported by the club itself on its website.
Carlo Ancelotti’s pupils trained this Thursday, in the third session to prepare for the duel against the ‘parrots’, with French winger Ferland Mendy completing part of the training with the group, while David Alaba combined work on the pitch and in inside the facilities.
While the squad carried out various possession and tactical exercises and a game in reduced dimensions, Mariano Díaz and Benzema also trained in the gym. It is the second day in a row that the French ‘nine’ has been exercising inside the facilities, which suggests that it is a doubt for this Saturday’s game against Cornellà.
As in recent months, attending, according to Ancelotti himself, to possible muscle fatigue, Benzema could dose this Saturday, after linking four straight games -including the Cup Classic and the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Liverpool- as a starter , since he rested on February 18 against Osasuna.
For this reason, with less training on his legs this week, the Italian coach could choose to rest him for next week. Real Madrid receives Liverpool in the second leg of the continental tie this Wednesday, while on Sunday, March 19, they will visit the Camp Nou, for a Clásico that can define the real options of the whites for the League.
His possible absence would force Ancelotti to organize the white attack, with the only fixed place for Vinicius Júnior on the left. The carioca could be accompanied by his compatriot Rodrygo Goes as ‘nine’, while Marco Asensio would occupy the right part. Another alternative would be the inclusion of youth squad player Álvaro Rodríguez, who has participated in Real Madrid’s last three games.
